I have always been intrigued by the body as once a dancer, now a mover and as an artist. I started as a young girl making my own dances. My first dance teachers were about improvisation than molding into a more technical dancer. Modern dance offered a freedom to create and play with movement.
My training as a dancer led me to want to know more about the body. My studies at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies help me explore deeper into the expression and function of ourselves. Laban had a rich way of explaining how the body moves in space and its expression.
We applied these principles to all human endeavors: function, sports, dance and art.
Choreography helped me explore the layering of moving bodies. This is what I bring to my painting. The paint is now the rhythm on the page like the dancer in space.
